Alessandro is one of the founders and executive directors of the Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines, the largest independent non-profit organization in the country dedicated to the conservation of marine megafauna and their habitats. Alessandro’s work includes collecting scientific data in the field and engaging with the local community and local governments for the design of protected areas and alternative conservation strategies. His work and passion have brought him across the globe to collect data in remote areas like the water of Kamchatka in Russia and Alaska. Recently, his work has shifted focus to marine wildlife-human interaction, both consumptive and not. He is a National Geographic Explorer and member of the IUCN Otter Specialist group, where he focuses on the Illegal Wildlife Trade. Alessandro has a degree in veterinary medicine and has been responding and rehabilitating sea turtles and other marine megafauna for over 20 years.
