Jeff Berckes
2013 FellowSenior Environmental Scientist at Iowa Department of Natural Resources
Des Moines, IA 50310-3329
United States of America
Jeff runs a Clean Water Act Program for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency. His team of engineers and biologists collect water quality data for surface waters that are not meeting expectations, determine the cause of the issue, and calculate the "Total Maximum Daily Load" that the system can assimilate on a daily basis. Jeff's background includes masters degrees in Environmental Science (with an economics emphasis) from Oregon State and in Business Administration from Iowa. Jeff enjoys the multi-disciplinary problem solving aspect of the work we, as environmental scientists, are expected to perform. In his free time, Jeff contributes to a website covering the Chicago Bears NFL team and is trying to run a half marathon in all 50 US states (26 completed).
