Simon Akwetaireho

Community Development Specialist at Ministry of Water and Environment


Over the past 16 years, Simon has worked in Uganda in a variety of roles including, community development specialist at the Ministry of Water and Environment; program director for the REDD+ Carbon Project at the Jane Goodall Institute; program manager for the UNDP/GEF Albertine Rift Forest project at Wildlife Conservation Society; and community conservation warden for Uganda Wildlife Authority. Simon’s areas of expertise are community-based natural resources management, protected area management and planning, catchment-based integrated water resources management, biodiversity research and monitoring, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. He has successfully implemented 46 community-driven development micro- watershed catchment sub-projects that provided economic incentives to households.

Simon holds a Master of Science in protected area management from Klagenfurt University, Austria, a diploma in endangered species management from the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, UK; and a Bachelor of Science in forestry from Makerere University, Uganda.
