Montanye Consulting - Independent Consultant at Montanye Consulting

I deliver conservation results ranging from increased biodiversity to improved landowner collaboration for wildlife management at large scales. I am skilled in conservation project development, implementation and management both internationally and in the US. Examples include using innovative market-based incentives such as a reverse auction to retire cattle grazing and linking increased wildlife numbers with opportunities for economic growth and stability. I have experience as a manager, leading teams and implementing pioneering programs. I am able to engage research and technical assistance to merge the issues of conservation, economics and livelihoods. I have the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

I have worked in the conservation field for over twenty years linking economic, ecological and social systems. For eleven years I worked with World Wildlife Fund, first with their Macroeconomics Program Office managing poverty-environment projects in Tanzania, Vietnam, Laos, Mexico, China and Nepal.

I then worked with WWF's Northern Great Plains office implementing economic incentive programs on private lands, putting tens of thousands of acres under long term conservation
management.

I have advised Federal and State wildlife and land management agencies on issues of economic development and environmental
conservation and international bodies including UNEP and European development aid agencies on policies to recognize ecosystem health as a poverty reduction tool, including participating in the drafting of materials for the 2005 World
Summit on Sustainable Development.

I currently works as an independent consultant coordinating twenty five conservation groups working on the American prairie, and teaches Environmental Dimensions in Health Education at Ithaca College.

I hold a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Writing from St. Lawrence University, an M.S. in Environmental Policy and Democratic Processes from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a master’s
degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University.
