Kate is the vice president of oceans at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a leading green group focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships, and market-based approaches to solve the world’s most pressing environmental problems. Kate oversees the talented teams on the ground in Europe and the Americas, as well as the work of the Fishery Solutions Center, a diverse team of experts who develop and apply innovative fishery management approaches. All teams are focused on solutions that reverse over fishing and restore our oceans to abundance. Kate regularly advises governments, fishermen, and other stakeholders on how to make their fisheries more productive and profitable. Kate also helped conceptualize and design the California Fisheries Fund, an award winning fisheries finance program that supports sustainable commercial fishing in California, Oregon, and Washington.
Kate graduated from Stanford University with a master’s in earth systems and a bachelor’s in human biology.
