Mercy Kariuki is a young, enthusiastic, Kenyan conservationist with an interest in community conservation work in Africa. Her interest and education background on environmental science lead her to work with BirdLife International Africa Secretariat for more than six years. Through her daily activities, Mercy has developed strong leadership, project coordination and implementation skills. She has leveraged her experience with BirdLife to undertake fundraising efforts aimed at the conservation of Sharpe’s Longclaw; an endemic and endangered bird species in Kenya. She has won grants from The Rufford Foundation for projects that promote conservation of Sharpe’s Longclaw while striving to enhance environmental awareness among farmers. Mercy loves outdoor activities such as birdwatching, hiking and mountain climbing with her recent climb being to Mount Kilimanjaro.
