Njenga is a county executive member in charge of water, environment and natural resources for the county government of Laikipia in Kenya. He has worked in community-based natural resource management, project management and leadership for the past 18 years. He began his career as a volunteer with the Rehabilitation of Subukia Water Catchment project in Nakuru, Kenya before venturing into business. He then worked for Cambridge University’s Laikipia Elephant Project tackling issues of human-wildlife conflict and sustainable livelihoods. After earning a master’s degree in conservation and tourism, he joined the Zeitz Foundation as conservation and community programmes manager, implementing on the ground community conservation projects focused on water, climate change adaptation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, education, tourism, land tenure research and governance in Laikipia. He left Zeitz Foundation in 2016 as the programmes director and joined Maliasili Initiatives Inc, managing a portfolio of partners comprising a range of grassroots community-level organizations and national policy networks or coalitions working at the forefront of natural resources management and conservation across wildlife, forestry and marine resource management in Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia and Zambia. He is a 2011 ESRI Conservation GIS Scholar.
